Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Junior Sustainability Specialist to join our team at Mediplast! This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals looking to start their career in sustainability. You will play a crucial role in integrating sustainability into every facet of our operations, supporting the development and implementation of strategies that align with global frameworks like the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This position is based at our headquarters in Malmö, Sweden.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of sustainability strategies and policies for our medical device products, emphasizing the use of eco-friendly materials and reducing environmental impact.
- Ensure compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation, focusing on increasing recycling rates, incorporating recycled content, and reducing unnecessary material usage.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable practices into product design, manufacturing, and supply chain processes, ensuring our products meet high sustainability standards.
- Monitor and report on sustainability performance metrics and progress towards goals, contributing to our commitment to operational excellence and environmental responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD),
- Educate and engage employees and stakeholders on sustainability initiatives and best practices, fostering a culture of sustainability within the company.
- Assist in life cycle assessments to identify opportunities for reducing environmental impact, balancing innovation with sustainability to ensure the enduring viability of our products.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with multiple departments, including QA, Marketing, and Sourcing, to ensure compliance with sustainability regulations and advance our commitment to environmental responsibility. You should possess strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to effectively coordinate with key internal partners and ensure alignment with our strategic and sustainability-related goals.
The ideal candidate is a natural communicator who can engage and inspire colleagues across various functions, fostering a shared commitment to sustainability. You should be detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating both initiative and a strong sense of responsibility. Your ability to navigate regulatory landscapes with a solution-oriented mindset will be crucial in driving our sustainability initiatives forward.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in sustainability and environmental issues, particularly within the medical device industry.
- Basic understanding of sustainability regulations and standards, such as EPR and CSDDD, is a plus.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and a willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluent Swedish and English, both written and spoken is mandatory.
